Three ways to shift soil and rubble. Weight decides this one more than volume.

  • Best for heavy loads

    Skip Hire

    • Cost: £150–£170, all-in
    • Effort: Barrow it in, we do the rest
    • Handles: A patio, a dug-out border or a chimney breast
    • Best for: anything heavy — a small skip filled properly beats a big one you cannot fill.

  • Reuse On Site

    • Cost: Free
    • Effort: Medium — moving it twice
    • Handles: Whatever the garden can absorb
    • Best for: clean topsoil going into raised beds, or hardcore under a new base.

    Only worth it if the soil is clean and you have somewhere to put it.

  • Tip Runs

    • Cost: Free, plus fuel and your weekend
    • Effort: High — and hard on the car
    • Handles: A few bags per trip
    • Best for: a bag or two. Most tips cap soil and rubble [ASSUMPTION: confirm Kirklees rules].

Which Skip Size?

Soil and rubble are heavy, so the small skips are the right ones here.

Stay at 4 yards or under for heavy loads [ASSUMPTION — confirm weight policy]. A part-filled small skip is safer than an overloaded big one.
