Never in a Skip
No exceptions, no matter the price. These are the alternatives.
-
Asbestos
We can’t take it at any price. It needs a licensed asbestos removal contractor, and you can search the HSE register for one near you.
-
Gas Canisters
Even empty ones. Return them to the supplier, as most operate a take-back scheme and some refund the deposit.
-
Hazardous Chemicals
Paint, oil, solvents and pesticides go to the council’s hazardous waste service. Kirklees runs drop-off days.
Waste Questions
Most household, garden and DIY waste: furniture, wood, metal, plastics, packaging, garden waste, soil and rubble, bricks, tiles, carpets, kitchen units and general clearout junk. Mixed loads are fine. A few items need booking in or keeping separate, including fridges, tyres, plasterboard and mattresses, and a short list can’t go in at all. If you’re not sure about something, ring us before you load it.
Three things carry a charge: tyres at £10 each, mattresses at £20 each, and fridges or freezers at £100 each. Book them in when you order so the crew knows to expect them. Everything else in a normal mixed load is covered by the skip price, and unlike most local firms we don’t charge extra for plasterboard.
Ring us as soon as you realise. Banned items like asbestos, fuels, paints, oils, gas cylinders and hazardous waste have to come out before we can collect, and a skip we can’t legally take away holds your job up. Tell us up front and we can usually sort it. Your local household waste site takes most of these free of charge.
Yes. Household, garden and DIY waste can all go in the same skip: furniture, wood, metal, plastics, packaging, soil and rubble, bricks, tiles and carpets. Plasterboard is the exception and has to be kept separate, because the law doesn’t allow it to be landfilled with mixed rubbish.
Yes. We recycle 90% of what goes into our skips. We’re a licensed waste carrier and a local family firm, and we’d rather do the job properly.
Mattresses can go in at £20 each, added when you book. Rules brought in in 2023 class them as controlled waste, so they’re collected and processed separately. Paint is different: wet paint can’t go in at all, and your local household waste site takes it free of charge. Empty, dry tins count as scrap metal and are fine.
